What is the proper color terminolgy for this 1940 dark green paint? 5 Attachment(s)
I know it's hard to determine paint color from photos, but what is the Ford factory color name for this shade of green? Thanks in advance. I appreciate it. Trying to settle an argument between friends....

Re: What is the proper color terminolgy for this 1940 dark green paint? Or, maybe a better way of phrasing the question: What 1940 Ford factory color does this color most closely resemble?

Re: What is the proper color terminolgy for this 1940 dark green paint? The three color chip charts I found (Martin Senour, Ditzler and Beckwith Chandler)
all shows the color's name as Yosemite Green. |

The Ditzler paint chart for 1940 Ford and Mercury vehicles shows two greens: Acadia Green M3903 and Yosemite Green M1800. It also shows a sort of gray green color Cloudmist Gray M1787 which is more gray than green. The Yosemite Green is very dark, almost black.
Attached are photos of the cab of my tonner shortly after it came back from the paint shop. The paint store mixed the color to match the paint on the inside of the door access panel which was as it left the factory. The color turned out to be a very close match to the Acadia Green chip color so that's what I'm calling the paint color on the truck. Its hard to tell from your photos, but if that green on your friends car is a dark green I'd say it was Yosemite Green. Let us know who won the bet. |

Digital images generally don't render the true color when reproduced.
Take your pick:) |
Re: What is the proper color terminolgy for this 1940 dark green paint? Difficult to tell from a photo but it appears to be Cloudmist Gray.

Re: What is the proper color terminolgy for this 1940 dark green paint? Kube Just saw color chart Dartmouth green was for my car 39

Re: What is the proper color terminolgy for this 1940 dark green paint? Acadia Green was a late "spring" color in 1940. Since my wagon was a very late car I chose it. I agree with Kube that the car in question is probably Cloud Mist Gray which most people would characterize as a green color.

Re: What is the proper color terminolgy for this 1940 dark green paint? Yup, Cloud mist grey like mine

Re: What is the proper color terminolgy for this 1940 dark green paint? My understanding was that Yosemite Green was a regular stock color available all production but Kube will know for sure. I have seen that color on Pickups and big trucks more then the passenger cars. Like someone else said, it is a very dark green.
