Optima battery holder

2 Attachment(s)
Got an Optima battery recently. Made my own holder out of 3/4" plywood and deed a board under it with two sideboards to keep it in place. Thought you might want to see it. No chance of shorts, no metal top bracket.

Nice work!! I can think of several different materials that would work with that design.

Really - nice work !!!!
I did a 2-minute-prob-fixed-solution (back in time) as i
didnt like "original" holddown from the vendors either.
Just cut out of thin plastic-plates. This should reduce
chance of shorts too.

Looks really nice! Maybe a dumb question but what is holding the battery down? I use an Optima also and am using the Bert's metal top holder on the original battery tray. i must be missing something from the pic but looks like the battery is just sitting in that cutout in the plywood and doesn't appear to have anything holding it down.....of course my old pilot eyes are not nearly as good as they were a few years back!

Looks like hold down nuts at the 2:00 o'clock and 8:00 o'clock position.

It also looks like those nuts only serve to hold down the plywood, but not the battery itself.

I used what I had--worked good for the 16 yearts the Optima lasted

Re: Optima battery holder

I bought the bracket from a vender. It didn't fit so I bent it until it does fit. Not the best answer probably, but it works real well, holds the Optima in place and prevents any movement as I drive over our roads, some of which aren't the best.

Re: Optima battery holder

I don't have a top strap because the battery can only go up about an inch before it hits the floorboards. The battery is sitting on a piece of 3/4" board with 3/4" side rails to hold it from moving side to side.
