tacomacreme I have an early 31 fordor 2W. The correct wheel color is,I believe, Tacoma Creme. The problem is that the powdercoat RAL TigerDrylac # 1001 color chip appears to be ''reddish brown', not anywhere close to the tacoma creme chip in the Model A Ford Paint &Finish Guide.
Has anyone powdercoated wheels using RAL #1001 and thinks the color matches the Model A PAINT GUIDE? |
Re: tacomacreme Here's the URL for the company that has formulated all the Model A wheel colors. I believe they sell the coating so you can have a local shop apply it.
http://www.modelawheelcolors.com/con...r_coating.html I've had several wheels done there and the colors look spot on. |
Re: tacomacreme I'll "invent" a TACOMA CREME Milkshake & send you a pic.

There was a problem posted about them a short while back. No one could get a hold of them and no product was shipped when ordered online. Contact them before ordering. |

FWIW, the RAL numbers are close but do NOT exactly match the Model-A Paint & Refinish guide chips. For some, that is OK yet for others not. |
Re: tacomacreme Without knowing the scuttlebutt (didn't think to look) I used modelawheelcolors twice in the previous month (had to redo my wheels - old thread that I will update soon).
Had no issues, fast shipping, color is great and wheels look beautiful. Perhaps I got lucky, but I am a happy customer. |
Re: tacomacreme I live in the area and have used modelawheelcolors many many times over the years with no issues. For black wheels I learned from John Hash that Les Schwab tire Company does them for less so for black it's Schwab. For colored wheels I'll still use them until I have a negative experience.
I'm becoming apprehensive recommending businesses. Especially if there's potential issues I haven't heard about. |
Re: tacomacreme This whole thread has me confused. When did they take the dairy out of the color?
|
Re: tacomacreme Les Schwab Tires does an excellent job of blasting and powder coating as foxfire42 mentioned. They have a color they call Fruehauf Yellow that matches the paint chips very well. If you happen to be where they have a store that should work for you. Also, I have used TigerDryLac RAL#1001 without any problems. (didn't lose points in judging)

Re: tacomacreme When I had my wheels powder coated "Tacoma Cream" years ago, the color matching was even more limited. I wasn't happy with the matching to the chip, but they experimented with a base coat of white which appeared to get it very close. Of course, who knows how accurate the color chip was. They do fade and the hue changes over time.

Re: tacomacreme I tried to contact modelawheelcolors again after several weeks. They still don't respond on email and their phone isn't working. I would say they are out of business.
Any opinions on spraying the wheels with acrylic urethane-single stage with PPG 1245 Tacoma Creme -DDC Concept? |

Re: tacomacreme If you have a copy of the'' Model A Paint and Finish Guide 3rd Edition Revised" look on p.17.It gives a good explanation on wheel colors.
|
Re: tacomacreme Henry's Lady, a book all about Model A's by Ray Miller, says on page 121, that "Starting with the 1931 models, wheels were painted at the factory to match the color of the stripe, (earlier, many were done by the Dealers on request)."
I don't know if this book can be used as an official reference guide but it's usually pretty good. |
Re: tacomacreme I consider Henry's Lady" more of a picture book, showing lots of cars, some with things wrong, if you are going for accuracy. I would refer to the paint guide and the judging standards.
