Light switch positions -steering wheel Installing the wiring harness into my car.
Does someone have a picture/diagram of the correct light switch positions for the lever on the steering wheel? Can someone tell me what they are? I thought 6 o'clock was off, with 7, 8,9 and so on turning on the selected lights. I have never been this far with the model A, so I'm in the dark...so to speak. I do have cowl light. Thanks in advance |
Re: Light switch positions -steering wheel Yea you are correct 6 o'clock is the off position, 7 o'clock is the running lights and then 5 o'clock is low beams and 4 o'clock is high beams. Someone will correct me if I am wrong this question was just answered the other day on here but I could not find the post. As for the cowl lights I am not sure I have seen enough to tell you about them

Re: Light switch positions -steering wheel The cowl lights are "suppose" to be wired to the 7 o'clock position, which is the parking or running lights. I prefer them to be wired the same as the tail lights, which then illuminates them in all positions except 6 o'clock (off).

And yes that little tool the Model A suppliers sell is great, cuts the job immensely and not as prone to lose your clip! |
Re: Light switch positions -steering wheel When I bought Vermin, he had ALL new wiring, but the lights did ALL kinds of STRANGE things. First of all someone used a loom for a car with cowl lights, (which my car doesn't have), then they tied into the short wire for the cowl lights & ran extra wires to the headlights & completely taped them to the main headlight looms! The wiring order inside the headlight switch was all switched around. I got a wiring diagram, removed the extra wires, & FINALLY got everything plugged in correctly. WHAT A MESS!!! I had a back ache, for a week! The good thing was that he has some REALLY quality, nickel plated, re-pro headlights.

Re: Light switch positions -steering wheel I have mine set up as has been described already here. 6 o'clock is "off", 7 o'clock is "parking lights" as in the smaller parking light bulb in the headlight assembly or else the cowl lights if the car is so equipped (as mine is) and the tail lights, 5 o'clock is "low beams" as in the little straight filament which is supposed to be topmost if you removed the headlight lens and looked inside at the headlight bulb and the tail lights, 4 c'clock is "high beams" as in the slightly larger V-shaped filament which is supposed to be lowermost is you removed the headlight lens and looked inside at the headlight bulb and the tail lights.
I guess it would be easy enough to modify the wiring so that the cowl lights light up in all three positions, but I have mine set up as the harness originally sets it up, that is with the cowl lights serving as "parking lights" and coming on only in the 7 o'clock position. |
