Window Anti-rattlers
 

Does anyone else remember the little rubber wedges you could buy to stick between the window glass and the frame to stop rattling? I think they went out when power windows came in, to avoid damaging the mechanism, but I used them on both my '37 Olds coupe and my '51 Ford. Now I've got a rattling rear window in my Tudor that could use a little help.

Why not install new window channels and just do the job correctly? It is not that hard.

I've seen the little rubber rollers who's mount screwed in to the door to lip.
Make a fat wedge out of a rubber door bottom jam.

Brent,

I need to finish that job up on my '30 Tudor.

My doors have deteriorated glued-in channels from 40+ years ago. I've got the repro channels and they're a little too wide and backed with rubber that makes it tough to just slide 'em in.

As someone mentioned, seems you have to unbend and rebend one retaining hook to install them.

Got some installation tips for me?

I remember those little rollers but I never liked the way they looked - sort of cheap and tinny! If anyone, back in the day, had come up with a nice little cast chrome doodad with a spring-loaded roller I would have bought it! I was constantly losing the rubber wedges.

We had them on the family Model A that my brother has now. Not sure if the rubbers are on them yet. They were bought from Warshawsky (not sure of the spelling) which is JC Whitney now in Chicago.

I wish that they had a cross section showing the anti-rattlers in place - and how they are secured. It's hard to figure out just looking at the photos.

If you mean the Mac's ones, the rubber goes against the glass and they're the filling in the door sill/antirattler/garnish molding sandwich. The screws that hold the garnish molding to the door sill hold it all together. pretty simple, really.

Got it! I think, however, that I would prefer the little rubber wedges. My vertical window channels appear to be in good shape, but just a bit loose at the bottom when the window is rolled up.
