Putting new lower radiator hoses on a stock '35.
I can't flex the lower hoses enough to get them on.
Seems like I have to remove the radiator to frame
studs and the hood latch brackets, which also attach the radiator.
Am Y right?

Tony, Not positive regarding the '35, but likely it is similar to my '38. I find it much easier to remove the front motor mounts and lift the engine at the front with a block of wood on your jack. This will allow the removal/installation of the hoses to occur almost automatically with the movement of the engine. The side benefit of course, is the replacement of the old motor mount rubber. When doing this method, be aware of features at the rear of the engine and their proximity to the firewall.

Lower hoses are always tough to install. First measure them and cut them just short enough for the clamps to do their job. Then coat the engine and radiator stubs with Indian Head shellac. Then heat the hoses in boiling water to soften them. Then flex them and slip them on one side as far as it will go. Then you should be able to work the remaining side on. Not an easy chore bending over the fender and reaching down. But to answer your question: You do not have to remove the radiator.

Just put the lowers on my '36. Major pain. I came at it from below and folded the hoses in the middle. Now I brought them in from a side to let each lip of the hose catch both bibs. Pushing and twisting, they went on. Make sure that you are holding your tongue right during this procedure.

Recently put lower hoses on my 34 5 window and found that
removing radiator was better for me.

On my '35 I slid the engine side on as far as it would go, then bent the hose in the middle and worked the hose on the radiator. It will go but it is not easy.

take a piece of thin rope put it through the hose make a loop on one end put other end through loop pull tight the hose will compress on one side drop hose in place slip rope out hose will relex in place.

I did what john indicates in post 3 except for the Indian Head shellac, not sure what that is but I used a little dish detergent on both radiator stubs and pump stubs and lower engine stubs. Slide on engine side as far as required and then work onto radiator side. Center and clamp. Bit of a pain but not too bad.

I knew the answers would vary but they are all appreciated.
I did put the hoses in hot water but never thought of boiling!
Great idea.
And the string thing seems good.
And I am really glad to hear that somebody recomends cutting to size.
I thought that if I bought them for the car they would be the right size!
Guess I can still learn a few things.
Dam I didn't want to pull the radiator foreward and mess up the
body lines!

Snap on makes a cotter pin removing tool that also works well on radiator hoses and window seals.

Put the hoses in a pot of boiling water for a few minutes remove them with groves and they will go on like you are handling a stick of butter. Use this method when attaching all hoses on the engine. Turns into a 5 second job.
