1932 Ford Model B carb.
 

I am working on a '32 Model B (4 cylinder) Zenith carburetor and noticed that the inlet, from the fuel pump has 1/2"x 20 threads that are straight thru. There is no provision for a compression ring, similar to the Model A, or other method of sealing. Is there a fitting missing from the carb?

Your carburetor has been altered. Originally there was no additional fitting and the fuel inlet line had a soldered-on compression fitting just like a V8 or Model A. Given what you have encountered, you will require an additional fitting.

Possibly use a banjo fitting?

Woodie,

If you have a lathe make up a male/female union out of nrass. Male end to screw in to the 1/2 UNF thread in the carburettor, sealed by a fibre washer and the female will then suffice as your inlet. The female needs a 1/4 diameter hole in it and the 118 degree drill will make a seat for a compression fitting on your 1/4 fuel pipe. No need to solder on the olive which ideally should be either copper or brass. If you get stuck I'll try to post a drawing tomorrow but be warned I'm not Leonardo

There is a common repair fitting for Ford 94 carbs that threads into damaged inlets and provides a new seat...mine have all come from used carbs and I do not know if there is an easy way to find one.

Thanks all for the input, once you think you have seen it all something like this comes along. The owner is going to look for another carb.

Woodie, I did tell you that I'm not Leonardo but here it is.....

Get a piece of 5/8 brass hexagonal bar. Turn down one end to 1/2 diameter and make a 1/2 UNF thread, 1/2 long. Turn it around in the chuck make a female thread on the other end. Drill a hole through 1/4 diameter
and there you have and adapter to fit your carburettor ! Use a fibre washer where the male thread enters the inlet port and the job is done !

Not a thing of beauty but at least you won't have to get another carburettor!
