Radiator Shop Guidance
 

Hi Guys,

Was wondering if anyone might be able to share some referrals for any good radiator shops located within the Southern Maryland/Northern Virginia areas that are knowledgeable about the rebuilding/rodding-out of vintage radiators. The older gentleman that performed our classic radiator work for decades recently went home to be with the Lord, and that has left us looking for a replacement as of late. Any assistance would be appreciated.

It's been a while since being back on the Barn. Had a few family members that we've been helping through some medical issues for quite some time, but those seem to be in the clear now, so its nice to be back again!

I had the same problem in no. calif, I found a shop that does a lot of tractor radiator work, they knew about rodding and flushing copper radiators, you might look around and see who is doing that in the farm land

I like to use Eagle radiator in Reading PA. He works on my T, A's and tractors. He even fixed my dad's 1907 reo cooling tank. He makes hot rod custom radiators too. It's an old time shop been there for years. The owner took it over from his father in law which has since died. He will Rod out a radiator if it is needed.

If it accepts full flow he will tank it, fix what ever leaks or damage is there and he does nice work. If it doesn't accept full flow - it is clogged up he will rod it. I don't nessisarly need someone messing with something that isn't broken.

You can google or try the Reading yellowpages for the number. The area is not real bad, but it's narrow city street. Bryan

You can take it to Glen Looper in Rockville and he will do you an outstanding job. Has years of experience on all types of radiators. Al Z,our club treasurer, just went there yesterday to get his '35 pickup rad. recored. Looper had just recored one like it 2 weeks ago.

Radiator shops disappeared when it was finally realized the boiling and rodding was a temporary fix. The only true "fix" is replacement. Costly? Yes. Effective ? Yes.

With all the reproduction radiators on the market, one can see why radiator shops started disappearing. There are still a slew of applications such as non-Chevy GMs, non-muscle Mopars and many Fords that are not reproduced and must rely on them to get recores and put them together. I have a '59 Edsel which is the same as '59 Ford and as far as I know, they are not reproduced so I will have to go the recore route, so when that time comes, I hope there's a shop left than can do that. Now with a '49 flathead car, I will likely have to go that route with it as well.
