Re: steering box I am pretty new to A's too, and I am sure you will get a response from the experts.
Based on my limited experience, by the time you remove the starter, remove the floor board, and drop the steering column you may as well pull the whole deal and make it easy on yourself. I tried to just put a seal on my '31 and had a heck of a time to get the column to a place where the sector shaft could get past the frame. I am looking forward to others input, I too will learn something I am sure. |
Re: steering box easier on the bench, then you can do a proper job. Adjusting the box also.

Re: steering box Short cuts usually cost more in time and money than doing it right the first time. Plus you'll have a superior job when it's done on the bench. Follow the Service Bulletins to make the adjustments and don't be surprised if you have to work through the 4 adjustments twice to get it all correct.

Re: steering box youll break your stones doing it that way when in actuality it would be easier, quicker and more thorough by removing it
