Voltage question

Can anyone explain why- when using a non original ignition switch-the on/off type- would an electric fuel pump not work when connected to the ignition side of the circuit going to the coil??

Thanks!!

Re: Voltage question

Because when wired such the pump is in parallel with the ignition points. You have to wire the car such that the pump is at the point where voltage is applied to the top of the coil, not the bottom.

Re: Voltage question

it will work as long as its not connected to the dist side of coil, it can be hooked to the hot side side of coil, the negitive side, to be safe tho, the hot side wire must be hooked up so the pump is turned off when the key is turned off, if you hook the pump to the dist side wire it will cause misfires, robs electric power
