Fair price for whitewall tires I recently purchased a 1928 Model A that has like new 21 x 4.5 Lester
whitewall tires on it. It looks like the spare has never been on the ground and the ones on the car have very few miles on them. I don't like whitewalls so I thought that I would sell them. I have a couple people interested in them, but I don't really know what to ask for them. Brand new, they sell for $180-190. Would $130 each be a fair price or is that too high?? thanks |
Re: Fair price for whitewall tires Around $90.00 to $100.00 would be fair. IMO

Re: Fair price for whitewall tires Why don't you get some tire paint and paint them black. That is what I'm doing to the garish whitewalls on my 28rpu. Or turn the whitewalls to the inside so you can't see them.

Re: Fair price for whitewall tires I'd hate to paint them if someone could use them since they're
more expensive than blackwalls. Seems like the tires might have to keep being touched back up when the black would start to wear off the white part. |
Re: Fair price for whitewall tires I agree with Tex.............. save a whole lot of time and money for a driver.

Re: Fair price for whitewall tires Few miles but how old are they. Do they have any weather cracks. What is the date of manufacture ?

Re: Fair price for whitewall tires I vote for reversing them.

I didn't see any cracks in them at all. |

Re: Fair price for whitewall tires Used tires are a pig in a poke when buying unless they are new take offs. I think Mike's nailed the Max price range to start if you want them to sell. $95 each is about 50% of new shipped. The market will decide what the value is. I've got a very good crack free pliable set of vintage 21" WW Garfield's with lots of tread for sale locally with no interest at $120 for the set then again you may be in the whitewall belt and have no problem at $130 ea.
If are going to need to buy tires and it's a driver why not dismount them and paint them as suggestedand then remount and reverse them as was also suggested. As for dressing wear. Previous owner of my car top coated the old blackwalls I just replaced (with blackwalls) to dress them up a number of times. The outside did wear and the recoating was thick but the inside only had one coat and looked fine. Just a thought. Tim |
Re: Fair price for whitewall tires I would sell them.

Re: Fair price for whitewall tires I would say $75 each is fair and would move them;)
|
Re: Fair price for whitewall tires Reverse them on the rims!!!! You can tell people rich enough to afford whitewalls but have enough style to know they're ugly. You would be a true Blackwall Panther then
|
Re: Fair price for whitewall tires I would just drive them and wear them out rather than dismount and remount and risk tube punctures or a pinched tube. No one cares if they are whitewall or blackwall.:D

Re: Fair price for whitewall tires Tom has the same feeling as I do. Drive them as is - you'll learn to love them. If they keep you up at night and you begin having nightmares - then sell them.
