any info on winfield intake?
 

bought this intake at a local flea market.got the winfield air horn with it.intake seems to have large runners.no markings on it.the flatty exhaust is all stainless and come apart in sections.anyone recognise these.i guess the chance of finding matching winfield carb parts will not be easy.

The air horn is for a Winfield BB or C. The intake looks like one that will not work with a stock exhaust sold by Sacamento Vintage Ford years ago. If your interested in selling either one I would be interested. PM me if so.

The intake could be one made by Dan Iandola back in the 80's, but not sure. The headers of course are flathead V8.

That's what I was thinking. I machine the rectangular flanged one for Snyder.

I have a new one (single intake) in the works because the pattern is so bad it is near impossible to machine with consistency. Working on a new model of the Thomas head also, because the pattern needs replaced now.

Regarding Winfield intakes, FYI, I've looked / hunted for a loong time for any Winfield , aluminum and/or iron, DUAL carb intake. Guess what...no such animal on this planet, seems to be !!
Anyway, you have indicated that it is easy to make aluminum 'stuff'. I'd buy a 2x2 Winfield aluminum intake, if you make such.
BTW, the various sized Winfield carbs have progressively LARGER intake throats and so the intakes should have also, IMO, for maximal operation, eh. What you think friend ;)?

What kind of mounting flange does it take? We already do the double and triple intakes.

BTW, Rick, I finally got core quotes back for the Winfield heads. Got to get cracking on that now. I also have to cut the block crankcase core plugs to make the 5 main blocks.

THANKS , for the update to us on the Winfield heads and block progress. That's exciting, indeed !
As far as the Winfield 'mounting flange', take a look at the pictured single Winfield intake at the top of this thread. This would be and is same same as double would be fitted. ALL intakes pretty much mounted the flange like Ford did originally, as seen with this single Winfield intake. I can send you pictures of a double (2x2) Winfield that I have and intend to use with your head and block. But, it is not an 'original' Winfield. Looks great , to me, though and I got the idea from speaking/learning from Jim B.

Steve, I just finished making the core plug for the rear B tail versions. The B valve cover modification will not be much work. I think you are the only one wanting one like that, so far. I will only do that for one casting in a loose piece type modification.

I've seen at least 3 different styles of dual intakes for Winfields; none that were actually made by Winfield as far as I know.

First style, shown here on the Johnny Bean roadster circa 1938 (appears to be a simple homemade log manifold);

Next is an Evans-style intake shown here (courtesy of the AHRF) on Carl Orr's Cragar-headed roadster in 1937;

The unidentified manifold in the above post was made by George Wight. Riley made a log type for their two port. The one in the photo is a reproduction not yet machined. Alexander also made a dual Winfield intake. The cast intake is marked Hodge in my files but I am not sure that is the name. Try to find one though.

Riley 2 port manifold. I found it in my wife's cousin's garage, he thought it and the other odd pieces it was with were tractor parts. Turns out his dad had run a Riley BITD; the head was not there only some small stuff. I think Dan Iandola had the wood pattern for this manifold in his possession.

The exhaust manifolds remind me of the original Continental GPU O-470 manifolds that came with the air-cooled engine before I installed it on my airboat. They were a 2 piece design like that and had the stud holes on a 45 deg.
