8mm Spark Plug Wires?

Can the subject wires be used in a stock 1946 59AB distributor? I need to order a set of suppression plug wires and 8mm's seem to be plentiful.

Thank you. That is exactly the information I was looking for and the order has been placed.

As a side note, I put a Pertronix Ignitor in my stock '46 Ford distributor and the car won't stay running due to the EMF interference caused by the solid core wires. So I'm told. I do know that the EMF raises hell with my VOM when it is anywhere close to the running engine.

That's why Pertonix recommends in their installation instructions that spiro-wound suppression wire be used.

Pertronix also sells a quality 7mm wire set that I use on two flatheads.

7MM “Stock-Look” Plug Wires

http://www.pertronix.com/prod/ig/fla...04_example.jpgNow you can get a "stock-look" spark plug wire, that performs! We've designed these wires with the same core that we use in our 8mm wire. The only real difference is the 7mm flat black silicone jacket that hides its performance potential from the naked eye. Get the best of both worlds with "state-of-the-art performance and a stock look."
These wires will fit most original wire looms. Select a custom tailored set for a great out of the box fit or a universal kit to match your unique engine and wire loom configuration.
Features

  • Two current paths for reliability and redundancy.
Primary path: Spiral wound stainless steel alloy.
Secondary path: Carbon impregnated fiberglass center core.
  • 7mm Silicone jacket to resist high temperatures, moisture, oil and chemicals.
  • EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Methylene) rubber inner insulation for superior heat resistance and prevention of arcing and voltage leaks.
  • Fiberglass reinforcing braid for added strength and flexibility. Lifetime Warranty.
Flame-Thrower "Stock Look" 7mm Universal Wire Sets

Universal 7mm “Stock-Look” spark plug wire kits featuring 90° or straight spark plug boots. Each universal set includes terminals to fit both male and female terminal distributor caps.

Do you think any permanent damage to the pick-up module could result from using solid core wires during the initial install and running of the engine? And, BTW, I saw that little warning when I was trying to figure out why it ran so well for a few minutes and then died. I know, read the instruction!:(

Thanks for that good information. I, too, have two more flat motors that are going to need wires and will keep these in mind as I forge ahead.

Don't know about any permanent damage but once correct wires are installed you will probably find out.

I believe you are absolutely correct about that. I was told by the Tech. at Pertronix to send the unit back if the engine won't continue to run after replacing the wires and they will replace it. Can't beat that. OBTW, replacing wires in a stock '46 is not a particularly fun job.

Not a fun job indeed. Last time I did one was on a '47 Merc. that I owned.

Does anyone know if this kit comes with the coil wire? I was looking at the amazon listing and it only shows 8 wires.

Every time I sold and used them it was a complete set with a coil wire

I also use the Pertronix 7mm stock look wires along with the crab/Pertronix ignition- very pleased with this set up.

These are the plug wires I am using on my 8BA. It has the Pertronix set-up in a Mallory distributor and they work just fine. Has for thousands of miles.

Is there a certain part number on the kit I should be looking for?

For the plug wires, the mfg part# is stated in Speedway ad. http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Moroso...-Kit,2378.html
That would be the Moroso. I have them also.

My mistake. for the petronix wire set. For a crab distributor.

it is a lot easier if you have a spare set of wire looms ready to use.

It sounds like Pertronix continues to be customer friendly. A few years ago they replaced two burned up units for me that was caused by a failed coil.
