Brake Adjusting Shaft A-2042 How critical is the length of the brake adjusting shaft A-2042? I would think that both sides on each backing plate should be equal, so what would be an acceptable variation in length?
I plan to use woven linings that are bonded to the shoe, is there any history of the bond not holding? |

For some reason the 'pointed edge' (really the forging line where the 2 dies come together) is usually worn down making it hard for the adjusting cone to 'click' properly. I usually dress the 2 slanted surface on a grinding wheel. At the same time i use a dial caliper to check the length and grind as needed so that I have pairs of equal length; else you will not have even application of the shoes. A very easy task actually. Not sure how well the bonding process would work with woven linings. Why take a chance? Riveting them on is not hard, and works very well. |
Re: Brake Adjusting Shaft A-2042 I've never seen a bonded shoe come off while a car is in service, but my Corvair was parked for a year or so and the bonded linings came off.
