I replaced the two lower hoses. It started and ran fine today. Then all of a sudden the starter would not engage the flywheel. It would spin when you stepped on the button, but not engage. Any quick things to check tomorrow? I am unable to post pictures.

Check the Bendix spring. Maybe a bolt sheared or came out or the spring broke.

Re: My new Model A

Dirt, rust, and heavy oil or grease can make the Bendix not spin up the helix to engage the ring gear. Be sure the helix is clean and only lube with very light oil or graphite. There is a small spring loaded pin on the drive pinion, be sure that pin has a drop of oil and moves freely.

If the pinion jams in the ring gear, put the car is 3rd (high) and rock it forward.

Bendix spring broken. We have an old time shop in town that is going to repair/rebuild. I looked at the Bendix and did not see the broken spring. Should have it back today and ready for our Annual Fiesta Car show on Saturday. Thank you guys for the advise.

The bendix springs that don't have a reduced diameter for the end coils need 2 shims. Bratton's was the first to offer these shims some years ago, and I think others now sell it also.
Spring Clips A-11384 These only work on springs with 5/16" bolts.

Be sure when you start it that timing lever is up, very hard on starters if timing is advanced!
I tell my grandsons put the ears up, hoping they won't forget that :-)

I am making a note to always have the spark retarded. I watched a number of videos before I got the car.

Attached are a couple of pics with my daughter and granddaughter visiting today. Our Fiesta De La Feria is this Saturday ( always the last Saturday of February). Car show is from 10:00 am. to 4:00 pm. and Centennial celebration is from 10:00 am to 11:00 pm. Barring rain we expect about 200 cars. Great entertainment, food, rides for the kids, arts & crafts, many vendors, Folklorico dancers, Mariachis, etc. Bring a car down. We are asking for a donation of canned goods for the food bank.
