F100 steering box conversion Pardon me if this has been chewed on before.
I'm considering having an F100 steering box converted for my A. A source of said steering boxes is the first hurdle. Question: What years of pickup boxes will fit the bill? Is there a ready source for cost effectively buying these artifacts or is it catch one where you can? What is the usual value of a found unit? |
Re: F100 steering box conversion Even though you can find them at Flea Markets, the vendors now know what they are with and price them accordingly. Mel Gross' son sells them rebuilt and ready to install. Do a search for his steering boxes and cast iron drums, Wayne

Re: F100 steering box conversion Look for a 1954 F100. They show up on E-bay and usually run about 150-200 dollars. That is for the stock steering box and it needs to be converted to your Model A. If you search the internet you can find articles on how to do it but if you want one ready to bolt in you would be best off to contact Mel Gross.

Re: F100 steering box conversion Can you still hook up wiring bail to f 150box?
Use a model a sterring wheel? Horn rod ? Adjust timing linkage? Lights ? Will everything in side the car still look original? Fredski |
Re: F100 steering box conversion yes, yes and yes.

Re: F100 steering box conversion I got mine from Modelaonly.net about 4 years ago and just love it. In the cab, it looks absolutely stock. Under the hood it looks "almost" stock. The box itself is a tad larger, but all the stock Model A stuff connects up just like the original; horn rod, light switch, throttle & spark linkage, pitman arm, etc.

Re: F100 steering box conversion I took on e out of a Model A when I converted it to RHD recently. Can't sell it! All of the work for fitting it to a Model A has been done.

Re: F100 steering box conversion I was told the only one to have is the 56 F100. I have one in my deluxe delivery and the last time I drove it, it was wonderful. Almost like having power steering. Some love 'em, some hate 'em. And yes, the light switch is on mine just like the old 7 tooth. I just gave a friend a couple of them that I had paid $175 for. He's making one up for me for the roadster, I think. If you have a good two tooth, stick with that. I can't tell the difference, now that I have a good two tooth in the coupe.

Even the F100 box has to be properly restored in order to work. |
