Practice does make perfect 3 Attachment(s)
I have already shared a list of painting tips that I learned the hard way during my quest to refinish the fenders of my 29 tudor.
Now with the first one finally finished one might regard repainting a fender 5 times (bottom side twice and top side 3 times) a monumental waist of material, time, and effort. But I like to think of it as my tuition. With each repetition I have learned more and my skills have improved. I am now sure that I am up to the task of the rest of the job. The moral is, keep at and don't give up, and you will acquire the skills needed. Safety Disclaimer: In areas of critical safety like steering and brakes trail & error self learning may not be the way to go. Following the instructions (either written or in person) of someone with experience and knowledge is the safer path. Here are a few pictures of the finished fender before color sanding: |

Re: Practice does make perfect I couldn't agree more! Years ago, I was working in a trade where appearance just didn't matter. "Get it done"," It ain't a masterpiece!" The artist in me did not like this, but "getting it out" was what mattered. In time I aquired some bad habits that had to be unlearned. A few pieces even had to be scrapped. Restoration is all about meticulousness and this must be learned or remembered.

Re: Practice does make perfect Weve all been there before. I learned to paint from two guys who collectively had 60 years worth of painting knowledge. Even with them guiding me, it still took me probably a year or so before i was comfortable walking into a booth every time. Like you, the first couple peices i sprayed i had to do over again because i wasnt pacient enough. Runs were my downfall, i either sprayed it perfectly no need to sand and buff or ran it to the floor. But practice and learning from your mistakes is what makes perfect.
