Work in progress

I call it an "organized mess".
Could not get the left hub off, decided to pull the entire drivetrain. Rebuilt the right side brakes but still can't get left side off. Patience and PB Blaster at work here ;)
Maybe by spring I'll have it at least running..... Oh wait, when is spring ?

Ugh! NO attempt on putting that rear end together without following Tom Endy's instructions for setting up the rear differential.

Seen under "Differential" at http://www.santaanitaas.org/technica...tech-articles/

Go buy the rear hub puller from the vendors for relatively small money. Original KRW pullers are good but there are cheaper alternatives.

Good luck.

Looks like he has the axle out, just the hub still on the trumpet.

I think he has split the axle while still attached to the spring. All the way down to the differential carrier.

OMG. Nightmares just thinking about it awake.

No Joe. I actually dropped the differential then split it. The picture is a bit deceiving but the rear wheel is just leaning in the wheel well. :o

Phew! One imagines a jack stand on the inboard end of that trumpet.

Stick with Tom Endy when you go back together.

Your upper radiator hose looks like it's for a 30-31. But whatever - may I suggest you stuff a rag in it to prevent anything from falling in? Voice of experience here.

That is a fantastic picture. I hope you took it in high resolution, so you can blow it up to poster size, frame it, and hang it on your garage wall.

The colors, layout, and patina make it look like a Norman Rockwell painting for the cover of Saturday Evening Post.:)

Re: Work in progress

You mentioned the left drum being stuck, but I see the right drum on the two jack stands. So you have both axles removed from the hubs/drums, so that must mean the drum is stuck to the brake lining. Did the car roll into the garage? If so, then the drum can't be stuck to the lining. Do both brake levers move on the stuck drum? Do you have the brake adjuster turned all the way OUT, meaning you should see threads on the rear of the backing plate?

I still think that picture needs to be made into posters for sale.:)
