Engine Rebuilder near NYC

Hi all,

Just got a 1929 business coupe and I'd like to have someone do the long block rebuild. Can anyone recommend the local guru near NYC? Thanks in advance!

Best rebuilder near you is Schwalm's in Strasburg, PA.

hey Pat, been to the Short Hills mall lately? (but you won't find any A parts there!)

I looked at your blog and it is too cool that you are able to make this a family affair. I hope the kids stay with it. In the end y'all will have accomplished a great deal, have a lot of satisfaction, have bonded more as a family, have a kool example of automotive history that hasn't been made in 85 yrs, and be able to do family events/outings/touring/etc which is when it gets really good. You will bring smiles to the faces of everyone you encounter: for that moment in time, strangers will be able to time travel with you and get quite a thrill!

do not get discouraged. it takes time to do it right. do it right and it will last and be reliable. the Barn is a huge resource for you, lots of willing help here.

I had my engine rebuild by Schwalm's. The did a great job. I had them go all the way, bored, inserts, full pressure, new cam and crank....
I'm about two miles west of the Livingston Mall.
Good luck

We have installed three Model A engines and a many flywheels rebuilt by J & M Machine in Southborough MA. Their attention to detail and close tolerances make for a strong Model A engine with minimal vibration. They are a little obsessive, but I’d recommend them unconditionally. It’s worth your trip.

J and M has done over 6 engines for me over the years. The crack repair is like open heart surgery, beautiful.
State of the art equipment that you won't find in the other shops.
I recommend them highly!
Give them a call.

Pat,

Al at Go Devil Garage and John at J&M Machine are the two folks I would suggest speaking with based on your locality, my limited knowledge, and their references. I've posted a list of "questions to ask a rebuilder" and some additional notes on my blog. I hope this is helpful.
