B block

I have a B block that's cracked under the inserted valve seats and perhaps somewhere else. Can it be repaired or should I buy a boat that needs an anchor?

I have a duplicate in the garage. I would contact Art Moore in Upland Ca. 909-982-7790([email protected]). I anyone out there can fix it, he is the one...I'm still waiting to send him photos of mine. Found another block so I'm in no hurry to spend the money on this one.

I have repaired a few B blocks with mixed results 50/50 just too thin or weak
if it was an A block or 8BA 99.9% success repair rate

Anything can be fixed so it is like new.
If you don't want to spend what it takes, there may be some new blocks
come along if you wait long enough.

Re: B block

ppl need to not be in such a rush to use valve seats on As and Bs.....this often leads to cracks....

Re: B block

I agree with Tbird and would never install a seat unless the original was very recessed, and even then an oversized valve might be a better way to go.

Re: B block

He has a B-block so it already had inserted valve seats the day it left the factory. I wonder if he is referring to the "roof" area of the valve chamber where B-block are notorious for developing cracks.

Yes it can be repaired and i would suggest taking it to a machine shop that can magnaflux and pressure test block.
Model B's are more prone to cracking.

Lock n Stitch is in Turlock,CA and can do the above mentioned repairs.

If you were on our side of the country it's a relatively frequent repair.

Re: B block

Just throw on an OHV conversion if there's more than one crack. It won't care all the valve seats in the block are shot!

......and double your HP in the process!

Doesn't stop the crack growing. I'd get it repaired, then put the OHV head on it. Overkill maybe but I prefer to drive than walk.
