Model A Engine Weight?

How much does a stripped Model A engine weigh? The only things on it are the head and oil pan. The starter, manifolds and everything else have been taken off.

Also does anyone have pics or plans for a wood frame to sit the engine on?

Thanks,
Kevin

Thanks, that confirms that what I have for lifting equipment, and that the stand I have will work.

475 lbs include bell housing and transmission.

So, if the engine and trans weigh 475. What does just the engine weigh?

Seems this question comes up often. Usually to figure out shipping costs.

Wouldn't it be great if we could get a 'sticky' with the weights of Model A assemblies and components? If that ever happens, the items should be described accurately, especially regarding what the assembly includes and does not include. For example, I've noticed that a 'complete' engine seems to mean different things to different people.

Re: Model A Engine Weight?

For shipping purposes I weighed a fully assembled engine fully ready to run on a certified scale. It had the carburetor, starter, generator, manifolds, water pump and flywheel. It did not have the bell housing and transmission attached. It came in right at 400 lbs.
Basically 100 lbs per cylinder.

Kevin,
Go to the DYI Help page of my website...look for the "Simple engine transport stand" click on the link following.

The wooden stand is extremely sturdy, quick to assemble and cheap to build.
Good Day!

I liked Dave's engine support so much that I made 3 of them for my spare engines to rest on. I cut 2 x 6 boards, 4 each, 17" and 8 1/2" to make mine, then used long screws to fasten them together.
