Enclosed transport New Jersey to Maine
 

I am looking for someone to transport Model A Ford from Southern New Jersey to Southern Maine; 400Miles. second or third week of January 2015. Can anyone recommend someone to make this trip? Thanks

A guy about 10 miles from me spent years restoring his 1961 Corvette to mint factory condition. Finished it this past summer, and his first time out he looked over at his wife and then back ahead and couldn't stop quite in time. He rear ended the car that stopped in front of him, and now has several thousands of dollars damage, even though it doesn't look too bad.

Driving is a full time job, especially with some of the crazy's on the road today. People eating, reading books, talking on phones, shaving, combing hair, putting on lipstick, etc. Two years ago I saw a woman with a book in the steering wheel, hamburger in her right hand, cell phone in left hand and steering with her knees.:eek::eek:

Doesn't take much to compromise 50 year old fiberglass! That sucks for him!

We really don't take my Harleys out much anymore due to what you said above. Driving in the DC metro area we've seen it all. My two best moron stories involved one dude driving 75 mph the highway with his left foot on the dash, guitar in his lap, left hand on the neck and right hand strumming, musta been on cruise control, he was steering with his right knee in rush hour traffic! The other traveling 80 mph with an open laptop STRAPPED to the steering wheel and phone in left hand. These types need to hit bridge abutments!!

I now know a bit more about the term "they're a good driver..." Driving a Model A truly explained that to me and with the 1 - 1.5 in. of steering play, one has to be a good driver... ;)

I have personally used Intercity to move a model A from OH to NJ. The transport is great, the drivers are great, but be patient for scheduling. They say 2 weeks, but it is more like 4-6 in my experience.

I have also used a broker that used a dually with a small 2 car enclosed trailer. While everything worked out fine, I was more satisfied with the professional drivers at Intercity.

Just my opinion.

I am thinking of using a local transporter that has an enclosed trailer. One man operation. He is asking $2 loaded mile does that seem like a fair price?

That sounds fair for an enclosed truck IF IT IS INSURED IN HIS POSESSION.

No insurance and I'd pass on it

As a transporter (both enclosed & open) I can tell you to NOT use insurance as the determining factor for choosing a transporter. Do a Google search of any potential transporters. There are a lot of hacks out there. You should have your own insurance on the vehicle, that way you are sure you are covered for the amount you feel comfortable with.
I would have loved to help you with this transport, but I am already booked for all of January.

Enclosed transport is the only way to go if you care about the car
you are having hauled .... ;)
