What would a good price be ?

Out here in the country I pass by a home that has a 28-29 Ford for sale. It's pretty much chassis, fenders, cowl ( looks like roadster windshield posts ) and all forward. Seating area and bed are all made of plywood ( pretty crude ). A little plywood pick up. It runs, at least it did this last summer cause I saw it in town toodling around. The entire body and fenders are sprayed white. It still has it's 21" wheels and tires look decent. It's been knocked about but It would still be a good project. Last time I looked he had $ 3,500 on it. That's a bit too much. I've been watching it set out in the weather for a couple of months and I'm not sure how long it's been out in his yard. I'm thinking on giving it a few more weeks and then maybe offering $1,500 cash and see what happens. What are your thoughts on price ? James.

your offer is pretty much right, but doubt he will take that if looking for 3500.

I buy complete chassis here for 600-1200. needing a little work to get running.

James,
I think you are closer to the right price than what they are asking for a "modified" model A. However, sometimes the seller gets bent out of shape if someone offers a low ball price and future dealing are ruined. The problem is you don't know if the seller is motivated or has some notion his car is special and wants too much for it, no matter how overpriced it is. You might talk to the seller and establish contact with him and see what he might accept. I am not a car buyer or seller, so this is just my opinion.

How much is actually useable to make a safe car?

Sounds strange, but really, what you are describing is often a worn out beast that needs everything.

A running moving A does not mean much as there are many that run and move, but few of the parts would be what you want on a car you actually would drive on the road.

The most important question would be Title? Does it have what you need to get a title? Which body style is the title? A tudor title does not have the value of a cabriolet or roadster title.

A chassis starts at scrap value and then start adding on value as you find out what is worth something. A title is worth a few hundred, an engine built by a known builder with provable quality parts adds more and so on.

Anyway, just my opinion. I like to see some value for my money. At $3000+ I expect a complete and decent basic tudor or most of a rusty high end car.

Get a buddy of yours to act interested and low ball at 1500.

You will know then where he may set his best price and go from there.
