28 special coupe steering column removal
 

What is the best way to take the steering column out of my coupe? It has a lot of slop and the oil just runs out the sector shaft. I need to re-build it and want to machine it to accept the little seal I got from Brattons on the sector. The O ring idea seems like a band-aid fix to me. I don't want to remove anything that I don't have to. If I remove the wheel will it come out through the door or out the bottom? I have also heard that the pedals have to come out as well.

Pull the floorboards, starter and clutch pedal, and pull it out the door. Takes about 20-30 minutes.

I am planning to do the same...with the step by step procedure outlined in the Les Andrews' Vol 1 manual. Do you have his book?

Steve, like some of us has done many. It goes without saying.. but take the steering arm off on the outside of the frame first. Remove nut and bolt. If you need a little help getting the arm off I use a very small cold chisel on the split sometimes to make it easier to slip off. Just be carefull as some splash aprons are close in that area and you don't want to dimple them from below. I use it at a slight angle ..
I concur.. I can have one out in about 20-30 minutes.
