'34 Pickup Rear Bumper Has anyone installed a rear bumper on a '33-'34 Pickup? If so how do you go about it? There may be other pickup owners that would like to add one to theirs. Thanks Guys. Mike

Re: '34 Pickup Rear Bumper I put one on mine, will have to look at it to see what I did. Believe I made an extension from the frame to where I could bolt stock bumper brackets.

Re: '34 Pickup Rear Bumper I bought a bumper and brackets from a 1934 Ford panel truck. After I installed it I took it right off. Couldn't drop the tailgate 180 degrees and get right up to the bed to shovel sand or slide objects. Looked awful, too! Besides our father, which art in Dearborn, didn't approve a rear bumper for that vehicle.

Re: '34 Pickup Rear Bumper 1 Attachment(s)
Here is what the 1933-34 Ford Panel truck bumper and brackets look like. Sorry I don't have a photo of them installed on my pickup.

Re: '34 Pickup Rear Bumper 3 Attachment(s)
2ndgeer has it 1/2 right, you cant get the gate down 180 degrees but i think they look kool.
used '40 rear brackets and extended the arm, i have seen then not extended but they do not look kool under the bed. i put a towel on the bumper when i have it down but mostly have the chains to hold it open, gate works great as a table. rich |
Re: '34 Pickup Rear Bumper I like it on there. I was thinking of putting one on mine too.It makes sense to protect the rear, thats why mine was so mangled when I got it.

Re: '34 Pickup Rear Bumper 34Flathead: Nice looking rear bumper on you pick-up. Since I really do not use the pickup for hauling I don't mind protecting the tailgate, when down, with a blanket. Did you have to modify the frame to mount the '40 rear bumper bracket? Would like to see a close up picture of the bumper bracket mounted to frame if possible. I assume that you used a '40 vintage rear bumperThanks for the reply. Mike

Re: '34 Pickup Rear Bumper 7 Attachment(s)
flathead34, here are the pics of my bumper brakets, again the main one mounted to the bumper is the '40 brakets, i dont know if the second braket is a front half of a '40.

Re: '34 Pickup Rear Bumper 6 Attachment(s)
here's some more.the first pic show's another braket welded to the bottom of the arm that will keep the braket from being pushed down or falling down, it is then drilled for the second bolt.
hope this will help anyone who wants to add a rear bumper to there pickup. rich |
Re: '34 Pickup Rear Bumper 34Flathead:
Thanks for the photos of your pickup rear bumper bracket. They are very helpful and I appreciate your time in taking them. Hopefully this will help other guys who want to put a bumper on the rear of their '33-'34 pickup. Score another one for the Ford Barner's. Thanks Guys. Mike |
Re: '34 Pickup Rear Bumper Checked mine yesterday, used 3/8" 6" flat stock to extend from original mounting holes in the frame and welded a 6" channel iron cross ways at the rear. Bolted stock 34 brackets to it. Spaced everything so the bumper extends about two inches past the tailgate at the center.

Re: '34 Pickup Rear Bumper Do you still have your 34 pickup? Was wondering if you had any pics of the rear bumper setup you made for it?
