Lost and Found
 

I needed money about 25 years ago and sold my very nice original 30 Murray Fordor. I recently went on an Internet hunt for the car and found it close to where I sold it. I made contact with the current owner and saw the car this week.

Somewhere along the road the car was restored to a good touring presentation with an OD. My original goal was to buy the car back but when I heard it had been restored I knew I couldn't afford it but still wanted to go see the car again.

It was bitter sweet to see the car now compared to the original car I had owned but it is still beautiful as a restored car. I knew it was for sale but hadn't asked the price before getting there. The old gentleman has several cars for sale and told me he needed 25K each to get his money out.

Well, it was good to see my old car again......................................

It is always cheaper to buy a finished car than try and restore one yourself. But, when you do it yourself you know how it was done and can do it to fulfill your needs and desires.

I figured when I heard the car was restored that the guy would want to much for it. Seems as if he has a mechanic do all the work so the price just keeps going up. The good thing about the whole deal was that my wife tried her best to figure a way to buy the car for me. I kept telling her that yes for sentimental reasons I would love to have the car but for 25K there would be some sort of Model A Phaeton in my garage that would help me forget the one that got away! Got a good wife!!!!

he said he needed 25 to get his money out. If he has any experience with the hobby, he knows he can't recover his money. Together with your wife figure what you would pay at your top dollar and make an offer. Maybe you could get it. He knows your history with the car. Maybe he would be willing to work with you. I really hope you can get it. Sounds like you have a wonderful wife as I also have.

I agree with sphanna. You have absolutely nothing to lose by talking to the owner. I suggest letting your wife lead that conversation. It is possible that the current owner might budge a bit on his price when he hears the sentimental sob story told by your wife about how badly you both missed the car and were so happy to see it again. You get my drift. The owner might cave in. :-)

I know that sounds like a lot but the truth is that the nice town sedans and fordors are bringing a premium right now . Everyone who wanted roadsters in their younger years now has grandkids and wants a nice close tour car

I would rather pay more for a nice car than 15 and it needs 5-6 k or more of work to bring it up to snuff . Have you prices a lb town sedan interior lately? How about a quality paint job, complete chassis rebuild

Very nice town sedans .... I mean nice ones are running 16-25k

I've helped folks find "A's" and have inspected many and traveled to check them out . I think it's wise to give a little more ( although not too crazy) for a very good car over an average one.
Just my 2 cents worth .... And then you have history in this one to boot.

Are The Victoria and the Cabriolet the same Price ?

25k each for those might seem like a bargain.

Some people have a funny idea about values especially when it's there own !!!

Good advice but I'd rather have another car for the money. Going to start another project after finishing the one I'm on now.
Yes all three cars are for sale ar 25k each.

Well, maybe it'll still be for sale many months from now because no one will pay what he is asking and reality will conk him on the head. Then will be the time for you to make a move.

$25K for a restored Victoria is below the current market prices.
