old engine I did some head matching for a local guys 39 ford, the engine was a mess after he beat the heads off it,he bought an old truck half chassis and engine to fit the engine into the 39,but when he started this engine it made a hell of a racket,so he pulled it and took the heads off for the 39 engine, these are the ones I machined .
he gave me the other engine minus the heads and with one piston in two parts and the rod just flailing up and down in the bore. I pulled this engine apart this arfo, 3-1/16 bore +.020.-060 on the rod bearings ,std mains on the crank. Best thing of all,it gave up a set of the early 2inch rods in good condition, only .0015 over the 2.220 bore, the block got stored under the bench and the rods will get resized. Lawrie |
Re: old engine Lawrie, I have my floater rods opened up .0015/,002 anyway. Just make sure they are round.

Re: old engine Thanks Ron,I now have so many of the 18, 21a and 29a rods I could just about buy a honning machine and resize them myself,at least then they would be right and not cost the earth.
Got any ideas what to do with the .060 crank, other that bin it. Lawrie |
Re: old engine If the crank is a late 2.138? I'd turn it down to 1.998 and use 21a floaers. I'm doing this on a 4" race crank. It must be balanced

Re: old engine Ron, no ,its a 2.00 crank that has the rod journals down to -,060,
Maybe a mail box stand would be a good use for it. Lawrie |
Re: old engine Good idea.
