Where is transmission neutral?
 

I got my old transmission and the rear end out of my '30 coupe. I am ready to install the new Mitchell transmission. So far things have gone great, although I am taking my time and not rushing. Both the Les Andrews manual and the notes that come with the transmission say that the trans must be in neutral when re-installing the unit. How do I know if it is in neutral? What do I look for? Any help would be appreciated.

Neutral is when the input shaft turns but the output doesn't.

If the shift tower-transmission top is off, look down into the transmission The two sliding gears shouldn't be mating with any of the gears on the cluster gear below and both sliding gears and the output shaft should turn freely without the input shaft turning.

I just checked and I found the point where the gears can sit so the input shaft (front of tranny?) will turn, but the output shaft (rear of tranny?) won't. Thanks guys.
