460 in a 58 Country Sedan? Up till this morning, my plan was to replace the dead 223 with a 351/C4 setup. As I said...till this morning. My Son-in-Law had a really nice 76 T-Bird... till yesterday morning. Seems a trash truck going about 40 mph used the Birds back bumper for primary braking at a stop light. Had it been any other car, I'm sure he wouldn't have walked away from it. But I digress...
This morning he offered me the 460/C6 out of the Bird for my 58 CS project. This engine was a crate motor about 15 years and 5,000 miles ago so its almost "like new". I had a 60 Bird years ago with the Lincoln 430 in it so I'm pretty sure the engine will fit, but what about that tranny? Also, any idea on motor mounts? I know I can get a universal rear cross memeber if I need to but then again any one ever been down this road? BIll |
Re: 460 in a 58 Country Sedan? If the trans has a regular ford style flat mount, then it should sit on your existing crossmember. If it has the lincoln style side mounts on the tail housing, then you will have to fab something up. You could build an adapter plate to connect the t-bird mounts to the frame once the trans mounting is done

Re: 460 in a 58 Country Sedan? Might try contacting this guy. I've got a friend with a 429 and a C6 in a 57, so it's probably doable in a 58. Going to be a really cool car, go for it.

Re: 460 in a 58 Country Sedan? I've seen the Crites site, but I had also seen somewhere a while back that the mounts from a late 70's to mid-80's F250 made the engine a bolt in as well. Anyone know if this really works? I'd rather spend $50 at NAPA before I dump $250 for a complete kit ay Crites.

Re: 460 in a 58 Country Sedan? Way back around 1980, I swapped out the 360 for a 429/460 in my '71 F100. Motor mounts from Ford (3/4 ton PU) bolted in just fine. The F100 frame was even pre-drilled to accept the mounts.

Re: 460 in a 58 Country Sedan? Directions have changed. S-n-L engine while "free" came with strings so bailing on the idea...

Re: 460 in a 58 Country Sedan? "strings" I hate that. I have come across that my self, yeah sure you can have it. Make plans, take time out to get it done. Time comes and all this NEW stuff comes up. I am like WTF? No, you can keep your shit then.
Sorry to hear about it. A 460 would have been nice. I am currently putting a 390 in my 57 Fairlane. Engine is at a friends garage, no problem, but when I get all my parts in to start working on it. I am SURE as I sit here and type "strings" are coming for using his garage space |
