Hey, I just got a great tip from BillM about the Turquoise Trail between Albuquerque and Santa Fe that I really appreciate and welcome any and all ideas of places to go and things to see on my trip. In Colorado I would suggest Phantom Canyon Road just east of Canon City. It is the most interesting road I have ever driven. Goes from Canon City to Victor, an old gold town that still has people living there.

Great! I wanted go to Royal Gorge again anyway. The highest suspension bridge in the world when it was made in 1929 until 2001, 995 feet above the Arkansas River.

I'd recommend stopping at the Acoma pueblo just west outside of Albequerque. It's not far from the interstate and very interesting. It's not lived in year round now except for weekends and vacations. The road to the pueblo was built many years ago by a movie company as payment for filming a movie there. You can take a bus up to the pueblo and walk down the ancient hand hewn stairwell back to the bottom.

In 1990 we took a two week trip around New Mexico. We enjoyed stopping at the Santa Clara pueblo and bought some black pots from a grandmother who was making pies. Just knocked on her door after seeing the pots for sale sign outside.

There is a great old style German bake shop in Victor that is really good! So might plan on being there around a snack time.

I'm wondering if that dirt road is plowed of snow in the winter?? Especially up so high, 9500 feet.
