Radio Restoration
 

Hey all,
Any recommendations as to who restores radios? The radio in question is a 41.

Mike the guy from Elizabethtown Kentucky , he sells on the auction site but will do your radio . He does good work I think . I have purchased a 36 radio from him oh and a 55 ford radio , both real nice . He has a 41 on there now you could look at. A super guy to deal with I have found.

I can't recommend them but they have speakers. http://www.turnswitch.com/ I do my own work on radio sets so I've never used them.

Capacitors usually need to be replaced with modern ones. The vibrator may just need the points dressed. Vacuum tubes may still be good but replacements are available. You can get a speaker reconed but decent modern style replacements are available from above.

Look around your area for an electronics repair shop. I found one nearby that can fix the old stuff. Mine did not require dial restoration or any work to enhance the appearance however.

Solid state vibrators, + or - ground are available.

I would go modern here, they do not show.

There is a guy in Soddy-Daisy TN (Chattanooga) that does old radios. He can restore it as well as convert it to FM and either 6V or 12 V. I can not remember his name at the moment but may be able to find it out tomorrow at our weekly car guys get together. I understand he does good work.

You might try Al Corbin ([email protected]) who posts from time to time on this forum; he wrote the book (literally, "Antique Radio Repair" by Al Corbin-still in print) . He repaired the remote head Philco in my '36 pickup, very fast and efficient service and not expensive
