Crank pulley
 

New engine, just getting ready to assemble.crank and cam gears line up perfectly. The problem is, when I put the pulley on it sticks out forword 150 thou. I measured my pulley to timing cover distance on my Tudor, also on another old engine lying around, then stuck a generator on the timing cover, and that's how far off the pulleys are out of alignment. It's a beveled type pulley, and I can "trim" the excess off and everything will line up. Anyone else have this problem?? Anyone know the correct length of a crank pulley, so I can triple verify that's the problem? Thanks. When I discovered this,
I was marking the seal area on the pulley, so I can put an oil spiral in it, like the V8s have. Anyone done that?

I have to eyeball the center of the V, but to the end of the inner shaft I measure 3.143", and if I measure just the shaft part end to end I get 2.295".

I would keep the shaft seal area as smooth as possible. I've never had a rope seal leak, and never had to repair a rope seal for anyone else due to leaks.
