Headlights
 

Want to remove the connectors where the conduit meets the headlight body and run wiring inside for soldering the connections. Does anyone know of a rubber grommet I can use and if so how would the conduit be held securing in place (photos would help)? The opening at headlight body in 7/8 and I believe the conduit is 3/8 OD. Thank you

We use regular plastic wire nuts inside the headlights no grommet needed and the conduit just rotates onto the socket as it is normally installed.

I used the sleeves which are rubber coated and bullet ends for the wires from the headlights, and to the headlights from the switch and removed the connectors at the bottom of the bucket. Label the wires from the headlight socket for High beam, Low beam so when you connect or have to remove easy to reconnect.

The headlight bucket should have a short, tube projection on the inside where the conduit enters it. . The conduit has a metal grommet on it that slides over the projection and holds the conduit from pulling out of the bucket. Some conduits do not have this part. I just solved this problem on my car by getting new conduits. Maybe others will have a different fix. I wanted it to be like the original set up A N D my conduits were in bad condition so I got new.

On my truck I drilled holes through the existing connectors just big enough to slide the wire into the light buckets and then soldered the wires inside.

I agree and have used this method since the 80s , works good for me .

i know many have trouble with that connection incld me in the past, but on my last experience with Lucy i used the brattons light wire harness with their headlight connectors on repo headlights they fit and worked beautiful. the harness end connectors do not need trimming when using their connectors..it was spot on

Hope that it works well for you. I did use bullet connectors in the wires just to the inside of the radiator shell so that the radiator etc... could be removed in the future if necessary.
