front fender dents from pebbles
 

I noticed that I am getting a lot of little reverse dings on my front fenders from pebbles being tossed up from the tires. Is there anything I can coat the underside of the fenders with?
I am running firestones on 16" rims and I assume the tread design is the problem.

I used a two part bed-liner and painted the undersides as a rust preventative. Bonus was the durability against rocks and debris hurled by the tires. Has lasted four years, washes up like new, and no one has noticed it is there.

Rubberized undercoating in a spray can. Clean everything real well so it will stick. Make sure to clean and seal/convert any rusty bare metal so rust won't eat under the coating.

General Information, FWIW:

I drove on "only" gravel roads for years where gravel was specified to be graded for maximum & minimum standards per highway department standards & never had a rock throwing problem.

Appears modern improper non-standard tire thread design could definitely be the problem ........ and/or a highway gravel gradation problem could be the problem where the gravel does not meet standard highway gravel gradation specifications.

Small washed graded pea gravel sometimes placed in private driveways by residential owners was the worst kind of gravel for lodging in tire threads only to be thrown out later with higher speeds.

We made boat trailers & small utility trailers with no fenders years ago, & were always cautioned to provide used, "worn" tires on trailers to avoid "possible" rock throwing now & then "without" trailer fenders which could occasionally break glass & chip paint.

For general information, non-commercial utility trailer used tires last almost indefinitely because they are not pulling like rear tires, not turning like front tires, & have no braking action -- my "large" boat trailer tires on a Model B front axle are 50 years old & still going strong.
