Lucas tires LucasClassicTires.com I was going through Hemmings classic car last night, and I saw an ad for Lucas tires.has anyone ever used the Lucas Olympic tires?they seem to match the 19 inch specs for Goodyear and Firestone and they look nice. just wondering if anyone has used them in how they held up?at $99 apiece they are appealing.

Re: Lucas tires Hi Chuck. Yes I just put a set (of Five) on my '30 Sedan. They seem pretty good, are round and straight, altho I really do not have anything to compare them to except my old hardened tires. And I like the looks of them. I can take a picture if you like. My car is a driver so they work for me.
Lucas Classic Tires is only ~14 miles south of me so I picked them up. They told me if you buy the tubes and bands from them also they will stuff them in the tires to save shipping. They are Hecho en Vietnam... at least it's not China. |
Re: Lucas tires I have a set on my rolling chassis yet to see the road. So, I can't attest to durability, but they seem to be OK. I bought Bratton's tubes with them, as they have the best tubes.

Re: Lucas tires I have worn out a set of Lucas tyres on my '29. They were quite OK on a sedate driver. I don't think they perform as well at high speed but for speeds up to say, 45 mph, fine. Mileage was good value for the $ compared to the others at about 10,000.

Re: Lucas tires just to mention, someone already mentioned on this board that they bought these through Summit
free shipping over 99. They are Coker tires, which owns Lucas which owns Universal-all have the same 99. tires-free shipping is a big plus and maybe tax free if you are out of state........? |

Re: Lucas tires Regardless of who owns who, tires are still made in Nam.

Re: Lucas tires It has been my experience over the last 60 years you get what you pay for when it goes to tires! I've had cheap tires that were out of round and balance. Years ago I even remember returning a set of tires because it felt like riding a roller coaster when driving over 40 MPH. It also depends on how you drive the car. If you are satisfied with 35-40 MPH and drive only short Sunday drives the cheap tires will probably satisfy you. However if you do some long touring and drive 50-55 mph I strongly suggest you bite the bullet and spend the money and buy the best. I drive my Model A sedan about 10,000 miles per year at 55-60 mph and have used several brands and Goodyear is the best buy for your money in my opinion. Just my thoughts. Arlyn

Re: Lucas tires I put a set of Lucas tires on when I bought my A 3 years ago. Have about 8500 miles on them and am happy. Lots of putting around at 35-40 mph but have done quite a few longer trips at 50-53 mph and they seem to be fine. Expect to get a lot more miles out of them yet.

Re: Lucas tires I put a set on my 29 roadster.
I don't expect to set any land speed records with em so they suit me fine. |
Re: Lucas tires Aloha,
Also got new set of tires from Lucas as well as the inner tube. Tires seems to be fine so far, donʻt seem to be out of balance. However inner tube leaking, probably around a couple of pounds of pressure a week. |
Re: Lucas tires Just to set the record straight, Goodyear, Firestone and Lester tires for our Fords are made in the U.S. as far as I know.

Re: Lucas tires I run Lucas on my PU - run LA freeways at 50 or so, no problem.

Re: Lucas tires Here is my experience. A fellow A owner and myself put the Lucas 19s on our cars prior to the MATC UTAH TOUR this fall. total miles were 2700 and both of us have tires that are down to 50% tread. Seemed like a good deal for the price of $99.00 but I have a minimum of 6000 miles on a set of Firestones and they still have more tread than the Lucas set. Think to old story remains "you get what you pay for!!". My next set will be Firestones of Goodyears. Lucas are made in Vietnam and the above are from the good ole USA....Need I say more

Re: Lucas tires Yea but the rubber is primarily grown in Asia...

Re: Lucas tires Quote:
interestingly enough a friend of mine put three or 4000 miles on a brand-new set of good years and they're shot.he did do a lot of hard and fast driving on curvy road though. |
