Rear Bumper Differences????? I have noticed in photos the rear bumper differences. Some are two piece and some are one piece. Some have the spare tire mounted and sometimes with the luggage rack also but when the spare tires are fender mounted the rear bumper are also sometimes one piece and sometimes two piece. What is the story with the different rear bumpers?
Thanks Ed |
Re: Rear Bumper Differences????? I got mine this way. It has dual side mounts, rear spare tire mount filled in, one piece bumper, luggage rack.
I believe the one piece bumper was an option with side mounts. Paul in CT |
Re: Rear Bumper Differences????? The full length rear bumpers were on 30-31 cars. Ford was trying to spruce up some cars making them deluxe, putting sidemounts and trunk racks on the cars to make them sell better during the depression.

almost all Model A cars came with split rear bumpers
exceptions were the convertible sedan and deluxe phaeton they only had full width rear bumpers in March 1928 Ford announce that people could have a full width rear bumper(the same bars as the front) with the introduction of the accessory trunk in 1929 full width rear bumpers protected the trunk ford also introduced rear bumper extenders for cars with trunks this gave better protection to the trunk in june of 1930 the single middle bar accessory rear bumper was introduced this better protected the spare tire the first photo shows the single bar accessory the second photo shows the optional extention bars for the trunk the third photo shows the introduction of the full width rear bumper as an option in March 1928 the last photo shows both the optional full width rear bumper and the trunk in 1929 |
