Painting Intake Manifold The paint on a flathead manifold always burns off the intake area where the carb bolts on. Does anyone have a way to prevent this? I was thinking maybe painting the area with hi-temp paint followed up with the green.

Re: Painting Intake Manifold The area under the carb has a passage for exhaust to heat the manifold. That is why the paint burns away. This passage can be blocked with little or no effect on the operation. Years ago, we used to block those holes with pennies, as we thought it gave the straight thru exhaust a better sound.

Re: Painting Intake Manifold I don't have to paint mine. My engine being a C59A came from the factory with an aluminium intake (although some dork painted it silver which came off when fuel spilt on it).

Re: Painting Intake Manifold I gave one coat of VHT clear on my 36 aluminum intake just to keep it looking clean, doesn't look painted.
