gear shift positions?

I still cannot find my owners manual and the awful service manual book is not help. Does the model B 1933 shift in the H pattern?
Where are the different settings?

Yes. Beware that only the shift between second and third gears is synchronized. You must come to a complete stop before downshifting into first gear (and, of course, reverse). Also, when downshifting from third gear to first gear, you'll avoid gear clash if you first downshift into second gear immediately before downshifting into first gear.

As I understand it, the 'H' pattern for the shifter was introduced by Hupmobile (some time in the mid 1920's), and eventually adopted by all automobile manufacturers.

Frank, classic 3 speed H pattern.

Top left: Reverse.
Bottom left: First.
Top right: Second
Bottom right: Third.

There's also an imaginary fourth in mid air over on the right that you will keep trying to shift into before you realise that once in Third, that's the lot!

Mart.

But you can double clutch into first gear without coming to a full stop.

Double clutching into first while moving is reserved solely for the driver who pays for the repairs.
