I'd just like to know how you guys feel about shipping sheet metal for Model As ? These days, I really dislike shipping stuff, due to fees and damage. This feeling goes double where shipping sheet metal is concerned, because of probable damages. How do you package stuff such as hood, dash and other odd shaped sheet metal to prevent damage :confused: Anyone else feel this way , or am I just paranoid :eek:

I have shipped a bunch of it in the last 12 years. Everything from complete cabs to cowll posts etc. So far not problems. Rod

Rates do seem high. Not had much problem with damage......so far
Bigger items can get expensive and Grayhound is painfully slow

It is all about the packaging. Fenders, hoods, doors, deck lids, etc. are shipped from vendors everyday of the week and most arrive undamaged. Don't cut costs on packaging and all will be OK.

I have had very good results using FASTENAL. The sender just straps it or shrink wraps the fenders, hood, etc. to a pallet and drops it off at a Fastenal store. The freight is charged to the recipient and paid when it arrives at his local store.
This is a space available service, but longest time from CA, TX, WA, to NC has been 10 days, sometimes 6 days. I have never had any damage.
They have 2600 stores nationwide, so odds are pretty good there is a store near you.

Just had two rear fenders shipped from Hershey back to Texas. $300 later they arrived by ups undamaged.

I quit using the post office to mail packages because they loose or break so much stuff, even when it seems to be bulletproof packing. I now ship by UPS, which is cheaper and faster, and so far no lost or damaged goods.

$300 sounds super expensive for two rear fenders. :confused:

I have had no problems with USPO
Much cheaper on small stuff
I sent 8# of parts to Norway via post office. $65; ups and fedex were approaching $200
Arrived fine 12 days

As far as packing materials. Go to your local furniture store and see if they have some large boxes and also check to see what they have for packing materials. Best stuff I have found is the heavy bubble wrap used by England Furniture. That stuff is near indistructable. Lazyboy boxes are real heavy cardboard amd works great for custom making your boxes. Rod
