Secondary throttle blade testing Guys, I recently posted about mileage and about the need for a different rear bearing for my "generator" fan mount.
This question is in regards to being able to check the secondary throttle openings on the 2 4bbl carbs and how to do it? I'm thinking of buying one of those "GoPro" cameras and afixing it to the firewall so that I can see if the secondarys are actually opening and how far? Do any of you have, use these cameras? If so, what all is involved in their use? I've seen where their use is on windshields to video a trip, etc. My friend Lou has one and sent a video that he made. Just wondered what others have done. Any info is appreciated Thanks Jim |
Re: Secondary throttle blade testing Any digital video camera will do what you intend using it for (for a lot less $$)
Will just take a little ingenuity in setting it up. For example this would be suitable-- http://www.ebay.com/itm/2012-NEW-Dig...item20c66d3478 Even some still digital cameras have video capability. |
Re: Secondary throttle blade testing 51 Merc
I underdstand and have a digital camera. My problem is not only the video aspect, but that I can't drive the car and sit on the fender at the same time and watch the carbs at WOT. I thought that with a small camera that will do video, that I could accomplish this |

Re: Secondary throttle blade testing Every camera I have ever seen has a 1/4" UNC thread in the underside. This is a universal fitment to allow attachment to tripods, etc. You could fab up a simple bracket and bolt the camera to it. You could probably but a cheap mount for a few dollars.
If you make your own it would be best to be very careful not to screw the bolt in too far. Use a longer bolt until it bottoms, and then use a nut to hold the camera to your bracket. Most reasonable quality digital cameras will take a video good enough to see what you want to see. Mart. |
Re: Secondary throttle blade testing If the secondarys are actuated by a diaphragm, put a small tie wrap on the stem next to the body. The stem would be sucked up into the vacuum body if it's working & move the tie wrap down.
Just don't make the wrap too tight. If you can't feel the the back barrels come in, they "ain't" workin', either a big bog or go faster. |

'2'? As in a pair of 4-barrels on an early v8? Jack E/NJ |
