Repairing Stripped Model A Axle Threads on the Vehical- Video.

I went ahead and Repaired the Stripped Axle Threads on my 1928 Model A Roadster Pickup last night. I followed the advice of several Ford Barn Members here. I also made a short step by step video so others may see how simple and what all is needed to do this repair.
Thanks for ALL of your Ideas and Support.

This is the Youtube Link to my Playlist of

Very good job with the video. If done as shown the axle assembly will be plenty safe for driving down the road. I hope I never need to do this but I will if needed rather than disassemble the axle and replace it. Thanks for taking the time to share. Don/WI

Is there a similar way to do the front spindles?

That is a really informative video. I have a spare axle that I need welded up but it is out of the car fortunately.

When I purchased my coupe, I found one of the front spindles had been brazed and then re threaded. I did not feel that was a good thing so I got a replacement front spindle. Don't know is what was done is the "normal" way to do it or not. It just looked like a "famer" fix to me. (Not knocking farmers-I was one). But me knowing nothing about this sort of thing, got the replacement.

I have not done the front - but I don't see any reason it could not be done.

Well, that is if you don't mind slightly less thread section retaining your two bearings and front hub onto the spindle.

This sort of like "bushing the eye" on a kingpin on the axle. Sometimes necessary to restore a wallowed out eye or correct camber/caster, but necessarily MUST weaken the front axle incrementally.

We're fortunate that Ford built a considerable margin into the Model A Ford. Not like my 2002 VW Golf which had wheel bearing guaranteed for 100K miles. VW was very disappointed when my first front wheel bearing let go at 89K miles, but were pleased as punch with the "other" front wheel bearing failing at 102K miles.

Tell me they don't pretty much know how much life to put into these bearings?

And don't give you a cent worth more than you pay for when you buy the car?

Was looking at another thread and was offered this one and found it very interesting and glad it was recorded so well.

I don't see the axle being out of the car as any sort of problem. Simply use a lathe to reduce the diameter and use the tail stock to make sure the die is square. Anyone who owns a lathe will do that in their sleep.
