tube shocks

anyone feel that its worth while putting tube shocks on a 1940 ford? I have a stock 40, planning to put on radials and a reversed eye front spring, and was thinking about going to tube shocks .

Re: tube shocks

Makes a lot of sense. They readily available, but it's the mounting system you will have to do the research on. I believe Specialty Ford Parts in Rosemead CA has some of the parts you need. Other Fordbarnes will chime in with specific answers if you ask all the good questions.

Re: tube shocks

IF you are not going to have your originals rebuilt. Go for something like the Pete & Jakes kit.. Cheap and works very well, one of the best things Ive done on my 35 P/up, Also a C.E. front anti swaybar.. wow!

Re: tube shocks

put a Posie's 2" drop front spring on a 40 coupe with tube shocks, much to my surprise found there was about 1/2" travel on the shocks, be sure to check on that

Re: tube shocks

I installed CE kit and Coker Radials. A very big difference in ride and steering. I'm glad I had it done. I'll send you photos if you wish.

I've just fitted tube shocks front and rear on my 40 coupe.I made upper shock mounts to mount the front shocks as I did not want to use the shackle type kits.I rebent the ends of the stock anti roll bar and used that also....a lot of hard work, but worth it, I think.

Re: tube shocks

Check with Chassis Engineering. The make kits for tube shocks and other parts inhouse, such as sway bars. Their website is www.chassisengineeringinc.com

Re: tube shocks

I agree with superal. Use the CE shock mount kit plus the sway bar. I found that using one suppliers "system" usually prevents mismatched componets, I never used the Pete & Jakes system as I felt the CE setup was more robust and engineered to work together with the front sway bar. Had this set up on a 40 sedan, 41 Pickup & my current 40 coupe

Mike42---Could you post the pictures. I am thinking about something for a better ride in my '36and looking for options. I would like any information and pictures on putting tube shocks and a sway bar in the'36.
Thanks

My suggestion is to use a 1940 Deluxe front sway bar with it's associated pieces, which are the perch bolts. This addition merely requires adding 2 holes and removing 2 rivits. All Ford stuff.
Re shocks, you can use MGB rear shocks. Bolt hoes line up with those of the Ford originals, and a "ball" end is then added to the lever arm.
Very easy and nice addition

I used the Chassis Engineering kit w/ sway bar and love it! Bolted right on! Pete and Jake also makes a similar kit.
