Need some help identifying this radiator
 

A friend has asked me to help identify this radiator (year & model) for him. Any help would be most appreciated. Thank you fordbarners

Doesn't look like any of the Fords most of "us" play with. MAYBE F-1? DD

I reckon its a late 35 car radiator.....that has had the top pipes changed, the filler fitted with another type of filler, and the 'raised' piece in the front center that has the overflow pipe come out of has been blanked off.

Definitely not an F-1 radiator. not 48-52 anyway.

I also first thought it might be a late '35 passenger car radiator, and maybe it is, but a lot would have had to been changed. Here are some pictures of a couple late stock/original '35 radiators that I have.

Are there any numbers on the outlet side of the top tank?

I can check for numbers on my two, but the other radiator that's in question, is 60 mile away in PA. If I find numbers on mine, I can call the owner of the one in question and have him check.

Up date..... just enlarged the above pictures of my two radiators and can see "B4". Can't see any numbers on his radiator in first post, but they are not the best pictures.

It looks like the 39 pickup rad I have on my test stand except my has the filler cap in the middle of the top. Walt

That doesn't look like the 38-39 pickup radiator I have in the rafters. I too think it is an early radiator with the top tank modified quite a bit.

I think Walt's close but not a pickup radiator as it does not have the extended tank that sticks out over the fan. However, it does look a lot like a 39 car radiator I had which did not have the split core or a hole for the crank to fit through. I actually still have one of the split core radiators with a cap off to the side like the one pictured. I know we are used to seeing the radiator caps in the top center of the radiator and certainly some accommodation for the hand crank but what would a Ford part be if it weren't for the baffling variations in which they appear. Could be period correct but not necessarily a Ford product, perhaps a replacement part provided by one of the Ford suppliers. Toby

I would expect the year/series designator to be pressed into the top tank.

Could it be an early (35) radiator with the inlets changed to run
a later engine with the water outlets in the center of the head in
an early car??

The top tank is a 1935 Ford car April to December production. The sidewalls are missing the "backward 7" hood latch and the upper tabs. It is also missing the overflow which comes out of the top tank from a small cup and runs down the front center. The Brassworks has photos of reproductions and restorations on the website.

Thank you all for your input on this. It looks like fordscript was the first to get it right, others thought the same as fordscript, and then The Brassworks came with the final confirmation that this is indeed a late, small top tank, '35 passenger car radiator with all those items mentioned changed from the original design.

BTW, if I were in the market for a new repro radiator for my '35, I would order it from Brassworks. All the other radiator manufacturers, that I am aware of, cater to the street rod market instead of trying to make their products fit an original vehicle.
