AMMCO 880 Brake Shoe Grinder Question
 

Has any one used one of these lately ?? Having a little trouble lining up the brake shoe to sand it ?? Any info would be appreciated.

I just did my shoes on mine. What is giving you issues? I can try and take some pics of my set up if that will help.

There is a fixture on top of the machine with two pins that I thought would line up with two of the four holses in my steel shoe but it doesn't How do you align the shoe up to sand it properly ?? Thanks for your help !!

I made these 2 plates,...the 2 pins are welded flush on the bottom plate.
It works good...

I had the same problem with my modle 2000. Finally decided I had the wrong attachment fixture and can. Advertized in the wanted adds here and on the HAMB and finally gave up on finding them and sold it. I bid on a model 8000 at an auction 3 1/2 years ago and did not win the bid. I quit bidding at $325 as that is all I thought it was worth. I still keep my eyes open for an 8000, but have not found one that was the right deal. Rod

Hi Bill,

I can't figure out to send PM pics. so here is what I think you are after. When I clamp the show in the two pins are very close to the shoe holes in the middle. but since they don't completely line up I get them as close to center as I can. You may be able to see one of the pins in the pics.

After I get it clamped down, I push the shoe up to the sanding drum and then do any fine tuning with the threaded handle. This way the show just barely touches the SD. When I go to do the .010,.020 etc. that is when I use the dial indicator at the end of the plate.

Ammco made three different clamps for these machines. One clamp is a production clamp which merely clamps the web of the shoe. No centering, you have to line up a shoe as used on A's carefully. Another clamp uses a fixed anchor position simulating the later style of shoes which only pivot on the anchor pin.and the third style clamp hasanother specific use, which I don't recall. Ihad contacted Ammco which is located in my state, they said when the asbestos liability claims when grinding and releasing asbestos dust started coming in they basically gathered upand junked all theremaining product. I was trying to locate the fixed anchor gages for the 14, 15, and 16 inch shoes.

I had the same problem and went to the plates...no fiddling around trying
to miss the holes with the pins. I used cold rolled, 1/8" steel.

I bought my unit from the Snap On man for $25,...disassembled, repaired,
replaced and made new parts to restore it. The machine weights a
a lot, so I made a cart so I can roll it under the bench.
