Optima Battery

Where is the best place to buy a 6 volt Optima Battery? Can these be sent through the mail, since they are sealed and do not have any acid ?

I bought mine direct from Optima with free shipping. Sent it right to my office and it was made in the usa to boot.

I bought mine from amazon with free shipping also. It's an acid battery with different technology. Check out the Optima web site.
I was having a hard time with the $25 price for the hold down most vendors sell and found one at Mike's for $12. I was very pleased, nice quality and fit and it orients the battery posts in the stock location. Tim

What is the Optima part number?

Re: Optima Battery

6volt are sold , you virtually will never lift the floor boards for years to check level. No acid leak and can be picked up with one hand, and last 7 years or more. Judges HATE them. They look like a 3-pack of beer in red, but "faux " battery boxes can be purchased to make them look period correct, but in Category 2 only. 850 cranking amps ...more then enough to start a 55 Chrysler Hemi, let alone a Model A. There are other advantages, but I hope I've made my point. Ron

Just a word of caution. I have two 5 year old optimas that are still going strong. Called my buddy up who owns an automotive repair shop, and told him I needed another one. He said, "I dont carry them anymore, to many warranty issues. So I went to Cosco who always carried them. The manager said they dropped them also for the same reason. He said since they moved to Mexico they have been having problems with them. Don't know. Just passing along to others. Plus I have not bought one as of yet. Just my 2 cents.

Hey zz,
Well, 2 cents well spent or received :) ! Good and , I think, accurate information. As 'they' say, your mileage may differ.
I happen to buy the last TWO optima batteries from the canoga park cosco. Went back week later with questions, and they said same same as you state. Since I'll most likely just toss these if/when they go south, performance wise, I'm not worried about that which I can do nothing. We'll see how long they last. Just saying that without warranty, maybe crap shoot,eh ! Oh, almost forgot. I had to return one optima to cosco, that I'd bought within a week of purchase..defective, they had last one on shelf for exchange..ahh, life is good :D
Hm, where/how is a guy to get 'warranty' if mail ordered..and who pays shipping

The Optima rack at the Advance Auto here was empty a few months ago.I said something to the counterman about it,he just grumbled something, then a couple of the others chimed in.I never got the real story, just a bunch of complaining about being stuck with a bunch of warranty claims that Optima wouldn't honor. That store is not the place to use the word 'Optima' any more.I have no idea if the quality really went down,or if they just got a few bad ones.

I have to wonder, what kind of gel they are filling them with in Mexico?

Re: Optima Battery

I've had a 6-volt in my '41 Hudson for the last 5-6 years, using a similar faux battery case as shown in the eBay posting. I also use a battery maintainer to keep it topped off. It has worked perfectly and never given me a minute of trouble.

I also have two 12-volt Optimas in my Dodge diesel truck. Same thing. No troubles. Truck sometimes sits for 2-3 months without being started - in that event I disconnect the batteries. They never self-discharge & always turn the engine over, even in cold weather when the preheat comes on. Finally, I have a marine-type Optima in my 5th wheel, which sits idle for many months, same thing: no problems.

I bought all 4 from Amazon. Decent prices & free shipping.

I've heard that there have been problems with the forieign made ones, but I've never had any issues with mine.
