colorado title laws A friend has located a car I want on a ranch in Colorado and the rancher will sell it with a bill of sale. How can I get a title in Colorado before hauling it home? How long will it take? Any hassles? This car has been parked for over 20 years. Sound advice, please.

Re: colorado title laws Does he possibly have a registration certificate from years ago. If so and a bill of sale may work. I'm not sure you title in Co.if you're not a resident. This info is several years old. In Louisiana we now can title antiques off a bill of sale. I would talk to the state police acting like I am just wanting info and see what they say. Philip

Re: colorado title laws Any plates on the car that the DMV could use to trace the owner? Can the DMV trace the VIN back to the owner?

Re: colorado title laws You must be a resident to get a title. You must get it in the county you are a resident in.
It must be inspected by the State Patrol and you have to then apply for a lost title. I have done it, and have numerous customers that have done it, and it can be done, but takes a few weeks, as you have to schedule with the state Patrol and they are always backed up on those inspections. Re: colorado title laws Rebuilders title makes it a 2014 car. Not cool for most folks

Re: colorado title laws I went the bonded title route in CO in 1998. Car is registered as a 1999 homebuilt, however, there have been some changes since then. It took a week to get a bonded title once I had my ducks in a row. Taxes are based on the bond amount and the safety inspection was lights, horn and seat belts. You can get an inspection on the spot in the Durango office. I suspect that it's easier to deal with a DMV office in rural areas than Denver or the Springs.
