Re: Dang new puuuuter !!! The last one I purchased was in the Dell business computer line and still comes with Windows 7. They were the only one I could find that still had 7 and a half decent price. With my greasy fingers, I don't need touch screen for sure.

Re: Dang new puuuuter !!! I am not a fan of W8 either. I got my new system about a year ago with W8 on it. I did a lot of searching on line to find out different things about it. I downloaded a start button for the lower left corner like I had on Xp. Now when I log on it looks more like XP did. I've put my short cuts like the Ford Barn on the desktop so they can be gotten quickly. I don't like the tiles even though thats the way all the phones & other gadgets are.

Re: Dang new puuuuter !!! My son bought my wife a new computer with Windows 8. Can't imagine what Microsoft was thinking. Bin it is right! I had her old computer rebuilt.
Get this; The new computer lasted less than three months. We called Wal-Mart, they guaranteed it for 15 days. They said deal with the computer manufacturer. Satisfaction Guaranteed they say. Yeah right. Bin it! |
Re: Dang new puuuuter !!! An interesting thread...
I've been involved with technology since the mid-60s and had one of the first PC's in the area running on DOS. With all these years of experience, you'd think I'd get used to Microsoft's cycles of a few poor iterations then one great version of their software. Currently, IMHO, Win 7 is the hands down winner when it comes to MS software. 8.0 and 8.1 just haven't made it for the consumer. Word is that 9.0 might be the next XP, but let's wait and see. Although the business is 100% PC and Win 7, I got an iMac for home a couple of years ago. The wife loves it, it is absolutely trouble free, and if I could afford to transition the business to Mac, I'd do it. |
Re: Dang new puuuuter !!! 1 Attachment(s)
Bill,
Do what you do best and that's shocks. Get Windows 7 and bin that heap of touch screen junk. See pic ! |
Re: Dang new puuuuter !!! 2 Attachment(s)
Bill,
What's more; get one of these and dump the nancy-boy heap of junk that doesn't make or receive phone calls and runs out of battery after three hours. ! |
Re: Dang new puuuuter !!! I also used to have Windows, too many issues. I bought a MAC about 5 years ago and ZERO issues since then. You have to step up to buy an AAPL product, they are expensive but in my opinion you get what you pay for. - Dennis

Re: Dang new puuuuter !!! I've grown old with Windows. . . We got PCs at work many many years ago so have just let Microsoft do their thing and had to deal with it. If I didn't have Windows at work I would be MacHappy. But too old to learn new tricks. I usually have 2 screens on, in front of me at work all day so needless to say I spend a lot of time on one of these contraptions. Does practice make perfect? NOPE! :)
I got 2 new laptops this year one for me & one for the wife, both with W8. Actually, I kinda like it - it sure is a lot better than that awful Vista! Touch screen on 8 is an option that can be disabled. And I get free tech support too. Nice to have an IT person in the family and also is a good return on the 'raising a child' investment. |
