28/29 Roadster Cowl Post Tops Does anyone make a repair peice for the top of the cowl posts on a 28/29 ? The part that the winshield stanchion bolts to on a 28/29 roadster. I see Brookville has the entire cowl post but I do not need the entire post just the top. Thanks

Re: 28/29 Roadster Cowl Post Tops 1 Attachment(s)
I have repaired mine, would have liked to find replacement tops for the door posts but gave up.
One was cracked off and just hanging on and the other completely broken off, lucky to get the broken off bit with it. |
Re: 28/29 Roadster Cowl Post Tops The open cab pickup I had, they were cut off with a torch at some point. Not completely gone, but butchered none the less. I started to repair them, but finally found a nice set of posts. Not impossible to make them, but would require a good one to compare. Rod

Re: 28/29 Roadster Cowl Post Tops They're also sold on eBay. Same picture as above so presumably the same seller ("crazyleeroy" is the seller - auction #231317539391)

Re: 28/29 Roadster Cowl Post Tops Wish those were around 8 years ago. Rod

Re: 28/29 Roadster Cowl Post Tops Yes it si the same person. He sent me that pic and said I could share the info with all of you. Everyone says just make them myself, which is not out of the relm of my capabilities. However, for the price I felt this is something that will save me time and is much easier. I should have mine in the mail by Sat. I will let you all know how they work.

Re: 28/29 Roadster Cowl Post Tops I know it's a long time ago....but how did they work out?
I'm in need of a pair now... Thanks |
Re: 28/29 Roadster Cowl Post Tops There is a nut plate with two tapped holes that was riveted inside the cowl post tops. Of course one is used on each side. They really don't have to be riveted to the cowl post top, as they can be held in place by hand to start the stanchion screws when attaching the stanchions. I happen to have a couple pairs of them I would sell if someone need any. I don't think model A suppliers sell them.

Rusty,
Thank you for the reply... I noticed how the repro (and originals) had that inside plate.... Realistically, I am capable of making the tops myself...but time and effort is a factor...kind of ;) My tops were very poorly made by previous owner... very very poorly done... body metal gauge steel, pie cuts, no holes....yet the person felt they were good enough to paint ... ??? see pics... Saw the aftermarket ones offered on ebay for 100... but would really prefer originals... probably not the most practical, but that's just how I am ;) Ash... |
