I've seen Rolls Royce hoods for the VW's, but never this Model A pig snout.:D:p

Seems I remember "sumbody" made body parts for a Bug, that made it look like a '40 Ford?? & VW sand buggies that looked like a "T" bucket.
Cindy had a Bug for years & I HATED to work on it, EVERYTHING wuz built ASSBACKWARDS!

they were sold in the 70's as a" Rolls- Royce" front and rear kit by Jc witney some one made it into an A.

1940 Ford front end, as well as R.R. front end (Hood Shell) - both were available.

In 1969 when I bought my second VW bug (beetle) I wanted one of those 1940 Ford front ends (R.R. was ugly !). Also at the time, someone put out a 1940's Ford body wood trim kit, resembling the Ford (and others) Woodie Statoin Wagons of the 40's & 50's. I also wanted a set of those for my new '69. Problem was my new '69 cost something like $1,800 - new in 1969. The customized '40 Ford nose piece (and it also came with a 'trunk' to replace the rear engine cover) cost $1,200. Not many were sold. The same with the 'woodie' treatment - $800. Not many sold, when the entire NEW car cost $1,800.

So I never did get my 1940 Ford Woodie ($1,800 + $1,200 + $800 = $,3,800 ) . But I did get my 1969 VW 'Bug' (Bettle) sedan, AND - I still have it - a 'back-up' for when I am not driving my Model A's.

Ron Wolf put a "look alike" rebuilt starter on a VW bug, wouldn't start!! Starter turned BACKWARD! Must have been for a car where the starter poked in frum the uther way??

As a community collage kid back in the 70's I would have loved to have one of the 40 hoods for my VW, but way out of my pay range. Ford Model T's, A's and VW's all are in the popular car group. There that kept it Ford related! :)

Thanks Mike - I enjoyed the tour through Ford-VW club link. And I am pleased to see that there IS still a 1940 Ford-VW around. I would liked to have seen the "Woodie" , but we can't always have everything.

I've never seen the woodie version,but there was a panel truck body conversion made years ago.With the 40 Ford nose it made a nice looking little car.There is one about 25 miles from me,it belongs to an older VW repair shop.It is lettered up with the garage name on the side of it.I've owned a few dozen old VW's over the years,all were pre-68's.Most were 56-65's.I had my A in 1972 when I got my license,but it was a little cold to drive regularly so I bought a 61 Beetle.It didn't have heat,but at least it had upholstery for insulation and the cabin was tight.Lots warmer to drive than the A.

a friend has one he built with the (1940 ford or rr) front end . home made fenders , convertible with small roof for sun screen . looks damn good for self made with no $$$$

Couldn't agree with you less. My first two cars were VW bugs and they were a great car to learn on. Bought both of them with issues, one needed a new transmission, the other a complete engine rebuild. Also some body repairs and paint job. Fixed them both up, sold one to pay for the other and drove it for several years after that. Actually still have it sitting in the shed. Yes, they required a lot of dinging to keep them up but a piece of crap they were not.

Early vw bugs had some similar features shared with the Model A:

6 volt electrical system; Manual trans; underpowered 40 hp engine; exhaust heat exchanger heating source; Tiny wipers; tall skinny tires and wheels; top speed around 60 mph; near same MPG; not good for hills; similar weight; both get stuck on the beach and the windows fog up when making out with my girlfriend :-) One big difference is the Model A is much Cooooler...
