While there may seem to be humor or silliness in those wheels, this actually is a fairly standard practice in the Hot Rod builder's world as they are used for mock-up of the car. The wooden discs are the same circumference as the tires that are targeted to be used, ...and with the wooden discs installed, clearances ( fender sheetmetal, suspension, etc.) and 'stance' can be verified without worry of damaging a high-dollars set of wheels & tires during the fabrication process.

Good in snow too. But traction challenged. Nails around the outside of the rear disks help.

The speed freaks substitute saw mill circular saws for the rear - but it makes the ride rough.

I made a set like that when we rebuilt a rear end in a neighbor garage and wheeled it to mine to installs

Thanks Brent, for enlightening us (or at least me). It goes with the old saying -"Behind every rumor, there is a grain of truth".

Hot Rod or Restoration I've always thought "New" tires should be one of the last things you buy before finishing a project. Bob
